Augi was first seen at our clinic in August 2003 at the age of
only 8 weeks. He had only been in his new home for a day or two and
the owner came home to find him not using his left rear leg; radiographs
revealed a fractured tibial bone. Puppies have amazing ways of
injuring themselves mysteriously!
Augi was hospitalized with pain medication and the next day orthopedic
surgery was performed by Dr. Mike Strobel. He applied a bone plate and
5 screws and the post-operative film showed excellent alignment of the
fractured bone. Perhaps the worst aspect for Augi, a very active
German Wirehair puppy, was wearing a splint on the leg for the next 4 weeks!
At that time another radiograph revealed that the bone was healing
beautifully and very rapidly, as is often the case with growing puppies.
As if all this was not enough, in November Augi went outside as usual and
came in with a large laceration on his right shoulder. Once again he
had to be anesthetized and have this area repaired. All healed
beautifully and Augi is now a handsome, large German Wirehair ready for many
hunting seasons!
